Shades of Growth
The hanging sculptures in this series are body-sized, purposefully designed to evoke a sense of connection and relationship with nature. In contrast to the more domestic and refined nature of the Clairaperennial sculptures, these hanging sculptures exude a wilder essence. They evoke the feeling of stumbling upon a natural phenomenon, a growth in the untamed wilderness. The forms themselves combine elements of a cocoon, a nest, and a fern, symbolizing a space of safety, transformation, and alteration. The sculptures invite contemplation on the cyclical nature of life, where beings find solace, undergo metamorphosis, and emerge transformed.
Within these sculptures, small blown glass bulbs serve as focal points. These resemble flowers or seeds, evoking a sense of regeneration and renewal. The dropping of these bulbs metaphorically represents the dispersal of new life, as they fall to the ground and germinate into new plants.
