The Clairaperennial Series

The Clairaperennial Series is a collection of plant-like sculptures that derive their titles from a combination of the term "clairs'' and the word "perennials." The "clairs'' serve as an abbreviated term encompassing the intuitive senses: seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting. Each "clair'' represents a unique way of perceiving and experiencing the world beyond our conventional senses. For example, clairvoyance relates to clear seeing, clairaudience to clear hearing, and so on. “Perennials'' are a reference to plants known for their resilience, longevity, and ability to thrive over an extended period. These plants endure through seasons, demonstrating a remarkable capacity for growth and survival.

The combination of "clairs" and "perennials" in the title of this series comments on the intuitive aspects of growth and healing, symbolizing an innate ability to endure and thrive even in challenging circumstances. Within these sculptures, one will notice texts and iconography that relates to the Bronx, New York City or urban life, a nod to the term “urban jungle.”
